The term “Boat Anchor” can be affectionate or otherwise, depending on your point of view.
Boat Anchor radio equipment describes any piece of equipment that to some amateurs is an old piece of radio gear that is large, heavy and uses valves.
Many amateurs describe boat anchor equipment as serving no useful purpose and should be “thrown into the water”.
To others, like myself, Boat Anchors represent a rich history of amateur radio and those that pioneered the days of predominantly “homebrew” (home made) equipment and/or the conversion of war surplus and commercial equipment for amateur radio purposes.
It is fair to say that I have quite a few “boat anchors”, some that are fully operational and others that are at various project stages in their restoration cycle.
I will describe each of these boat anchors in the fullness of time.
